Weddings at Immanuel |
Welcome to Immanuel Lutheran Church, and congratulations to you at a very special time in your life. We rejoice with and for you as you plan your wedding and marriage, and we welcome the opportunity to support you during this joy-filled time.
A wedding at Immanuel is an act of worship
Weddings can be held in any setting, but your choice of this church as the site of your wedding has some beautifully distinct implications. A wedding in a church is an act of public worship. The ceremony is a sacred event during which two people pledge themselves to one another in the presence of God and a worshiping community. All of Immanuel’s policies about weddings emerge from this conviction.
Schedule as early as possible
Please approach your inquiry to our church office about available dates and times for your wedding as a foundational step that is as significant as other wedding arrangements. Close consultation with the pastor and recognition of the church’s availability will be important considerations. No wedding shall be scheduled within three months of the initial contact with the church and the pastor.
Personal preparation
Being married at Immanuel requires personal preparation. If you wish to be married here, begin participating in this or another church’s regular Sunday worship. If you are not already active at Immanuel, you will find it a joy to be in company with other Christian people who seek to organize their lives around the grace of God. If you live away from Kansas City, begin or continue to worship regularly with a church community where you reside.
Consult with the pastor
We believe that crafting a marriage is far more significant and demanding than planning a wedding ceremony. That’s why any couple intending to marry at Immanuel must meet with the pastor as soon as possible to confirm the wedding date and make preliminary preparations for the ceremony.
In addition to that planning session, the couple will meet with the pastor and other couples preparing for marriage in a Saturday morning marriage-preparation session. Most often scheduled for second Saturday mornings in February, May, August and November, these pre-marital sessions are crucial for exploring together the meaning of marriage and family relationships. During your session, the pastor will work closely with you to lay the foundation for your life together by encouraging discussion of a range of issues related to your own growth and enjoyment as a couple. You and the pastor will also will plan details of the wedding service itself in the course of this session.
Rehearsals
Your wedding rehearsal likely will be scheduled at 6 p.m. the evening preceding the wedding.
Fees
Fees help cover the church's expenses for your event. They must be paid in full before your ceremony rehearsal. Fees range from $800-1,500 for members; $1,250-2,000 for non-members.The Immanuel wedding booklet contains additional information and details about wedding fees.
